Stomatopoda

Die rund 400 Arten besitzen Fangwerkzeuge, die denen der Gottesanbeterinnen ähneln. So ergab sich die Bezeichnung „Fangschreckenkrebse“. Einige Arten können bis zu 30 cm groß werden, die meisten bleiben deutlich kleiner. Sie bleiben meist versteckt im Sand des Meeresbodens oder in Höhlen und Felsspalten und verlassen diesen Ort nur zur Nahrungsaufnahme oder um eine neue Behausung zu suchen. Fangschreckenkrebse besitzen hochentwickelte Augen.
