Scorpionida

Von den ca 1.400 Arten ist Typhlochactas mitchelli mit 9 mm der kleinste und der Kaiserskorpion Pandinus imperator mit 21 cm der größte Vertreter der Skorpione. Nach McDaniels (1968) werden vier Grundtypen unterschieden:

• Psammophile Skorpione - leben in sandigen Lebensräumen
• Lithophile Skorpione - leben in felsigen Lebensräumen
• Grabende Skorpione - leben in unterirdischen Höhlen
• Wandernde Skorpione - wechseln ihren Lebensraum
