Acanthocephala

Der Stamm Acanthocephala (Kratzwürmer) [KOHLREUTHER, 1771]

In der Taxonomie werden die Kratzwürmer als eigener Stamm geführt. In molekularbiologischen Untersuchungen wurde eine Verwandtschaft mit Bdelloida, einer Ordnung der Rädertierchen (Rotatoria, Rotifera) nachgewiesen. Kratzwürmer sind Darmparasiten. Als Zwischenwirte befallen sie Insekten und Krebstiere um dann zu den Endwirten wie Amphibien, Fischen, Vögeln und Säugetieren zu wechseln. Die 1.100 beschriebenen Arten bewegen sich in einer Größenordnung von wenigen Millimetern bis zu 70 cm. Es werden 3 Klassen unterschieden:
