Tardigrada

Der Stamm Tardigrada (Bärtierchen) [SPALLANZANI, 1777]

Bärtierchen sind Gruppen von mehrzelligen Kleinstlebewesen. Die größten Arten werden 1,5 mm lang, die kleinsten erreichen weniger als 0,2 mm. Viele Arten können durch Kryptobiose auch Extrembedingungen (Vakuum, tiefste Temperaturen, Trockenheit, Radioaktivität etc.) unbeschadet überdauern. Sie wurden nachgewiesen in der Tiefsee (unterhalb 4.000 m), im Himalaya (oberhalb 6.000 m), in den Polargebieten und in äquatorialen Gebieten. Bärtierchen haben einen gegliederten Körperbau mit Kopf und Rumpf, ein Nervensystem mit mehrlappigem Gehirn, 4 Beinpaare, einen Verdauungskanal mit Mundröhre, Magen und Darm. Bei einigen Arten erfolgt die Fortpflanzung durch Parthenogenese, bei den getrennt geschlechtlichen Tieren durch Kopulation und Eiablage. Darüber hinaus sind zwittrige Arten bekannt. Schätzungen gehen von etwa 10.000 Arten aus von denen bis heute weniger als 1000 beschrieben sind.
