Systematik der Plethodontidae
Die Unterfamilie Plethodontinae [GRAY, 1850]
Plethodontinae ist eine von zwei Unterfamilien der Familie Plethodontidae (Lungenlose Salamander). Zur Unterfamilie gehören rund 120 Arten aus acht Gattungen. Mit mehr als 140 Arten ist die Gattung Plethodon die größte Gruppe. Verbreitungsschwerpunkt sind die USA, einige Arten kommen auch in Kanada und Mexiko vor. Zwei Gattungen leben außerhalb des amerikanischen Kontinents. Karsenia stammt aus Südkorea, Speleomantes aus Südfrankreich und Italien einschließlich Sardinien.
