Systematik der Uropeltidae
Die Familie Uropeltidae (Schildschwänze) [MÜLLER, 1832]
Die Schildschwänze kommen vor auf Sri Lanka, dem Indischen Subkontinent und in Südostasien. Es handelt sich um kleine unterirdisch lebende Schlangen, die nur etwa einen halben Meter lang werden. Sie ernähren sich vor allem von Regenwürmern. Sie sind ovovivipar, d.h. sie bringen lebende Junge zur Welt. Es sind rund sechzig Arten beschrieben, die sich auf sieben Gattungen verteilen.
