Systematik der Telmatobiidae

Die Familie Telmatobiidae (Andenfrösche) [FITZINGER, 1843]

Telmatobius ist die einzige Gattung in der Familie der Telmatobiidae. Die mehr als 60 Arten kommen aus dem Andenhochland Südamerikas, aus Ecuador, Peru, Bolivien, dem Nordwesten Argentiniens und dem Norden Chiles. Dort leben sie in oder in der Nähe von Seen, Flüssen und Feuchtgebieten in Höhenlagen zwischen 1.000 und 5.200 Metern. Einige Arten aus Ecuador und Bolivien könnten ausgestorben sein, da sie seit vielen Jahren nicht mehr gesichtet wurden. Allerdings galt auch Telmatobius yuracare als in der Wildnis ausgestorben, bis in 2019 dann doch wildlebende Exemplare gefunden wurden.
