Systematik der Sphaerodactylidae

Die Familie Sphaerodactylidae (Kugelfingergeckos) [UNDERWOOD, 1954]

Sphaerodactylidae ist eine Familie der Geckoartigen (Gekkota), deren Arten hauptsächlich in Mittel- und Südamerika und den karibischen Inseln verbreitet sind. Weitere Vorkommen gibt es in Nordafrika, Südeuropa und Vorderasien. Es sind sehr kleine, nachtaktive und zumeist bräunlich gefärbte Geckos. Sie leben vor allem an Baumstämmen und sind durch ihre Färbung gut getarnt. Sofern sie sich nicht bewegen, sind sie kaum zu erkennen. Es sind mehr als 200 Arten aus zwölf Gattungen beschrieben.
