Galerie der Pycnonotidae
Die Mehrzahl der Bülbüls lebt in Afrika und auf Madagaskar, einige wenige Arten in Südasien und von der südlichen Türkei bis in die arabischen Länder und Israel. Die meisten Arten finden sich im Tiefland, nur wenige kommen auch in Gebirgen vor. Sie leben vor allem von Früchten, hauptsächlich von Beeren. Einige Arten jagen auch Insekten oder suchen nach Würmern und anderen Kleintieren. Im Nacken besitzen alle Bülbüls dünne Haarfedern, weshalb sie auch als Haarvögel bezeichnet werden. Der Name Bülbül kommt aus dem Persischen und bedeutet Nachtigall.
